Our Clinical Philosophy

No therapeutic agendas. Your peace is the only priority.

Many people avoid therapy for family issues because they are terrified of being judged. Adult children fear being told they are selfish for setting boundaries. Parents fear being blamed entirely for a dynamic they didn’t want.

I have no agenda to force reconciliation, and I have no agenda to push you to cut ties.

We work collaboratively to help you define what feels healthiest, safest, and most sustainable for your nervous system.

Relational Diversity

The diverse spectrum of family estrangement

Estrangement takes many forms. I support individuals navigating all sides of these complex, painful relational divides, whether the goal is distance, low contact, or eventual repair.

Adult Children

Estranged from a Mother, Father, or Both

Navigating the excruciating decision to step away from parental figures due to persistent boundary violations, emotional unsafety, or a refusal to respect your adulthood. We focus on untangling childhood trauma, processing high-conflict encounters, and soothing the toxic guilt.

Sibling & Extended Family

Low-Contact or Complete Space

Managing the unique, often overlooked grief of sibling estrangement or distance from grandparents or entire family networks. We help you establish secure boundaries and find confidence in your relational choices.

Parents Grieving a Cutoff

Estranged from Your Adult Child

Processing the devastating, silent grief of having an adult child pull away or cut off contact. This is an incredibly isolating experience that traditional therapy often pathologizes. We offer a safe, warm space to process your pain, explore the relational landscape, and build pathways toward self-compassion and understanding.

Extended & Blended Families

In-Laws & Step-Family Boundaries

Setting protective limits with in-laws or step-family members to protect your peace, your marriage, and your immediate household. We help you co-create clear, shared boundaries with your partner and process the stress of values and religious divides.

“Whatever shape your family takes next, you deserve support that honors your pace.”

More Than Just Historic Trauma

Why adult family relationships become unsustainable

In an ideal world, families grow and change gracefully as children become adults. But in reality, changing dynamics often trigger massive tension. Estrangement isn’t always born out of dramatic historic trauma—it is often the result of ongoing, current clashes that wear down your mental health and physical well-being.

  • • Consistent disrespect for boundaries: Feeling exhausted by parents who treat you like a child, ignore your rules, or try to manage your life, home, or parenting choices.
  • • Unresolvable differences in values: Navigating the deep pain and tension of lifestyle changes, partner choices, political divides, or religious deconstruction where difference is treated as a betrayal.
  • • Protecting your immediate household: Deciding that step-parent, in-law, or sibling behaviors are too toxic, volatile, or stressful to expose your spouse and children to.

When your body spends every family interaction braced for criticism, gaslighting, or a boundary violation, it is telling you something. Our work focuses on helping you listen to those somatic signals, quiet the automatic guilt loops, and find a sense of physical and emotional safety in your daily life.

Answering Your Concerns

Common questions about estrangement & boundaries

Navigating family boundaries requires immense safety. Here is how our clinical approach supports your choices.

I am a parent whose adult child cut me off. Will you blame me in therapy? +
Absolutely not. Traditional therapy landscapes often default to an over-simplified model of blaming parents, completely ignoring the complex relational stress, outside influences, values divides, and extreme isolation that parents experience when cut off. In our work, your grief and your perspective are met with absolute dignity. My goal is to hold a safe space to process your heartbreak, seek understanding, and help you find peace.
Can we work on rebuilding the relationship, or do you only support cutting contact? +
We support whatever goal feels healthiest for you. Estrangement is not the only outcome. Many clients work with me to design and practice low-contact, low-exposure strategies, or learn how to hold strong emotional limits during occasional family visits. If your goal is structural repair, we focus on helping you communicate boundaries safely and process the somatic stress of interaction — and if joint sessions make sense, I can point you toward our dedicated family therapy support.
How does somatic therapy help with family guilt? +
Relational guilt is a physical sensation. When we are raised under heavy family pressure, setting a boundary acts as an automatic threat signal to your autonomic nervous system—showing up as chest tightness, a racing heart, or a heavy stomach clench. Somatic therapy helps quiet these biological alarm states, allowing your body to stay grounded and calm as you make decisions that protect your peace.
