Gottman Method Couples Therapy & Relational Repair • Washington State
Stop fighting the same fight. Let’s rebuild your foundation.
Evidence-based clinical strategy paired with deep emotional attunement. A secure, warm virtual space for Washington couples ready to de-escalate defensiveness, repair trust, and bring back genuine intimacy.

My client is your relationship, not either individual partner.
Many couples avoid starting therapy because they are afraid the therapist will take sides, assign blame, or make one partner feel like the “bad guy.” In this space, there is no room for finger-pointing. I do not look for who is right or who is wrong. Together, we look at the invisible, habitual cycles that catch both of you off guard, working collaboratively to make the relationship feel safe, fair, and deeply supportive for both of you.
“Behind every loud argument or heavy, distant silence is a vulnerable, unmet bid for connection. Relational repair is about learning how to safely speak so your partner can finally hear you.”
Why repeating the same argument is physically exhausting
When relationships feel strained, conflict doesn’t stay in your mind. It floods your physical body. You might feel your heart race, your stomach tighten, or a heavy desire to shut down and walk away during a disagreement. In Gottman Method clinical terms, this is called “diffuse physiological arousal,” or physical flooding.
When either partner is physically flooded, logical communication is biologically difficult. Your brain shifts toward survival mode, treating your partner’s voice as a threat. No matter how much you love each other, you end up repeating the same painful fights because your nervous systems are too activated to connect.
We work with both the behavior and the biology. By weaving the Gottman Method with somatic co-regulation, we don’t just teach you talking points. We help you recognize when flooding is happening, learn how to safely pause and settle your physical systems, and build concrete communication habits that restore trust and safety.
The protective loops we unpack and transform
Couples conflict is rarely about the dishes, the chores, or the schedule. It is about emotional safety and validation. Here are the common protective patterns we navigate:
The Four Horsemen of Conflict
Gottman clinical research shows that four specific patterns, criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling (shutting down), are the primary predictors of relationship distress. We help both partners learn to identify these habits in real time, replacing them with supportive antidotes that de-escalate tension and open the door for genuine listening.
Repairing Relational Wounds
When trust is damaged by old betrayals, consistent miscommunication, or major lifestyle or values divides, relationships can feel fragile. We use structured Gottman repair frameworks to help both partners speak openly about past hurts, process unmet emotional needs, and slowly co-create a solid, trustworthy foundation.
Rebuilding Emotional Connection
Over time, many couples shift into a state of “roommate syndrome,” where the relationship feels functional but devoid of romance, playfulness, or shared dreams. We help partners learn how to comfortably turn toward one another’s everyday bids for connection, update their understanding of each other’s inner worlds, and bring back organic warmth and intimacy.
