Internal Family Systems (IFS) & Parts Work Therapy • Washington State
You are not self-sabotaging. Your parts are just trying to keep you safe.
Do you feel like you are constantly fighting yourself? A warm, spacious, and non-judgmental virtual space to help Washington residents resolve inner conflict, quiet the inner critic, and build deep self-compassion.

Having contradictory feelings doesn’t mean you are broken.
Have you ever said, “A part of me wants to make a change, but another part of me is completely terrified and holding back”? This is a natural human experience. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is built on the understanding that our minds are made up of different parts, each carrying its own feelings, memories, and protective strategies. You don’t have to fight your thoughts or hate your habits. We welcome all of your parts into therapy with curiosity, respect, and warmth.
“Every part of you has a positive intention. Even the parts that shut down, criticize you, or push people away are just exhausted protectors trying to keep you safe from pain.”
Moving beyond self-blame to understand your protective system
When you try to break an old pattern, whether it is people-pleasing, constant anxiety, food struggles, or relational reactivity, you might find yourself falling back into the same habits. It is incredibly frustrating, and it is easy to start blaming yourself, thinking you just lack willpower or self-discipline.
But from an IFS perspective, these “sabotaging” behaviors are actually active protection. When you experienced chronic stress, trauma, or conditional environments in the past, parts of your personality stepped up to shield you from being overwhelmed by pain or rejection.
We don’t try to force your protective parts to change. In our work together, we get curious about them. We listen to their worries, thank them for their years of service, and help them feel safe enough to finally step down. When your protectors feel secure, your core Self naturally emerges, restoring a deep sense of confidence, emotional regulation, and inner peace.

The common roles our internal parts play
To survive stressful relationships, life transitions, or trauma, our system naturally splits into three major types of parts. Here is how they show up in daily life:
The Proactive Protectors
These are the parts of you that work tirelessly to prevent you from feeling pain, rejection, or failure. They show up as your inner critic (telling you what is wrong before anyone else can), your people-pleaser (making sure everyone is happy so you stay safe), or your perfectionist (believing if you are perfect, you won’t be criticized).
We help these exhausted parts learn to trust that you can handle life without them carrying the heavy load.
The Reactive Firefighters
When pain, shame, or fear somehow slip past your managers, these reactive parts step in with emergency tactics to douse the emotional fire. They show up as sudden binging or restricting (using food to soothe or control), numbing out (dissociation, scroll spirals, or substance use), or sudden outbursts of anger to push others away.
We do not judge or punish these parts; we work gently to help them safely stand down as we heal the pain they are shielding.
The Vulnerable Exiles
Underneath your proactive and reactive protectors are the younger, highly sensitive parts of you, sometimes called your inner child, that carry the historic pain: memories of being neglected, dismissed, or told you were not enough. Your protectors keep these parts exiled to prevent you from being flooded by their heavy grief and shame.
In our secure therapy container, we gently access and soothe these vulnerable exiles, unburdening them from old shame and returning them to a state of joyful connection.

We map your internal parts while supporting your body and nervous system, helping you translate emotional peace into physical comfort.

Hi, I’m Isabella Koepf
I’m a somatic trauma therapist who helps individuals connect deeply with their inner landscape, resolve self-sabotaging patterns, and find genuine comfort.
Many of my clients feel like they are in a constant, exhausting war with their own thoughts. They know logically that they are safe and worthy, yet protective parts of their mind continue to react with anxiety, panic, or protective numbing.
By bringing Internal Family Systems (IFS) directly into our therapy sessions, we don’t try to force your defenses to change. Instead, we listen to their worries with real compassion, helping them safely release the burdens of the past so your core Self can comfortably shine through.
