Relationship, Divorce & Separation Therapy • Washington State

You don’t have to lose yourself to get through a divorce or separation.

Individual relationship therapy for Washington residents processing separation, divorce, co-parenting changes, and the heartbreak that comes with the end of a relationship.

A calm, grounded visual representing independence and healthy boundaries
No Fixed Agenda

My only goal is to support your truth, whichever direction it leads.

Many people avoid support during separation because they worry the therapist has an agenda: either to push a struggling relationship to keep working at all costs, or to steer them toward a fast separation.

In our work together, I hold a space with no agenda either way.

Your emotional safety and your own judgment are what matter here. Whether you are seeking clarity about your relationship’s future, navigating a difficult divorce process, or healing your heart, we move at a pace your nervous system can handle.

A Note on the Legal Process

This is therapy, not legal support

This work is emotional and nervous-system support during separation or divorce. It is not legal representation. I do not provide court testimony, custody evaluations, parenting plan recommendations, legal documentation, or any involvement in legal proceedings. For anything related to the legal process itself, please work with a licensed attorney or mediator.

“We cannot think our way through heartbreak. Losing a relationship changes our sense of physical safety, and the body needs to be gently shown that it is safe to exhale again.”
Finding Your Footing

Why separation and divorce exhaust the body

When a primary relationship breaks down, the stress isn’t just a mental puzzle to solve. It’s a threat signal to your nervous system. Your body treats the loss of a close attachment as real danger, and that can show up as a knot in your stomach, tense muscles, constant alertness, or a heavy kind of exhaustion.

This gets harder during divorce proceedings or co-parenting negotiations. Every text message, email from a lawyer, or custody handoff can trigger a wave of panic. Trying to manage those logistics while your body is stuck in fight-or-flight is exhausting and unsustainable.

We work directly with your body’s stress responses. Instead of just talking in circles about what’s wrong, we use somatic practices and gentle EMDR to process the shock and clear immediate triggers. This helps your body find a quieter baseline, so you can make decisions with more clarity and real self-trust.

Support at Every Stage

Support through every stage of separation and divorce

Whether you are weighing a decision or healing in the aftermath, this is a steady, respectful space for wherever you are:

Deciding

Feeling Stuck & Uncertain

Processing the weight of feeling stuck: wanting to stay but exhausted by repeated conflict, or wanting to leave but held back by guilt, fear of the unknown, or attachment anxiety. This kind of relationship counseling focuses on quieting the mental noise so you can find your own clarity.

Going Through It

Separation & Divorce

Navigating the emotional and logistical weight of separation and divorce. We focus on building firm boundaries, calming legal-trigger panic, processing difficult interactions, and supporting your nervous system through mediation and negotiation.

Restructuring

Co-Parenting Boundaries

Learning to co-parent from a steady, grounded place. We help you set clear boundaries with a former partner, process the dread that can come with custody handoffs, and keep your child’s world as free of conflict as possible.

Rebuilding

Reclaiming Identity & Healing

Grieving the relationship you deserved but didn’t have, processing attachment wounds, and rebuilding your sense of who you are. We support you as you rebuild your life, learn to trust your own boundaries, and step into your independence.

How We Heal

Somatic & evidence-based support

Because relationship stress affects your whole body, we combine a few gentle clinical practices to help bring back a real sense of calm.

Somatic Experiencing

Calm Your Body’s Alarm System

Setting limits or stepping away can set off real physical danger signals in your chest and stomach. Somatic tracking helps quiet those automatic alarm states, so your body can stay steadier through hard conversations and transitions.

EMDR Reprocessing

Process Conflict & Shock

If thoughts of betrayal, legal threats, upcoming handoffs, or difficult conversations trigger a physical reaction, gentle EMDR can help your brain file those events away as finished, not still-active, history.

IFS & Parts Work

Ease Your Conflicting Feelings

You may be carrying genuinely divided feelings: a part that holds self-blame, a part that wants to run, and a part that wants to fight back. We work with all of these parts with real compassion, helping the internal conflict settle.

Divorce Therapist, Washington State

Hi, I’m Isabella Koepf

LMHCA • Licensed Counselor associate Somatic Therapist Trauma-Informed Specialist

I’m a somatic trauma therapist who helps Washington residents reconnect with their bodies, process chronic hypervigilance, and find real safety again after a relationship ends.

I understand how exhausting it is to hold your body in constant alert mode: managing logistics, other people’s reactions, and your own grief all at once, while trying to ignore the stress building underneath it. I hold a non-judgmental, warm space for that whole process.

By combining body-centered somatic therapy with parts work (IFS), EMDR, and steady daily practices, we help your system release that stress and settle back into the present at your own pace.

Answering Your Concerns

Common questions about divorce, separation & therapy

Navigating separation and divorce takes real courage. Here is how this work supports your choices.

What if I’m not sure if I want to stay or go? +
That is completely okay. Feeling torn or stuck in limbo is where we do some of our most important work. I will never push you toward one choice or try to make you hurry up and decide. We use parts work (IFS) and somatic safety to help you unpack your competing fears and hopes, so you can eventually move forward with clarity.
How does somatic therapy help with custody handoffs or legal stress? +
Difficult communication acts as an immediate threat signal to your nervous system, causing a racing heart, throat tightness, or a knotted stomach before meetings or transitions. Somatic therapy teaches gentle tracking and regulation tools to quiet that fight-or-flight response, so you can hold your boundaries calmly.
Do you offer couples therapy for divorce or discernment counseling? +
Not currently. My work is individual only. If you and a partner are weighing whether to stay together or separate, or are looking for joint sessions during a divorce, a couples therapist who offers discernment counseling would be a better fit. What I offer is individual support to help you process your own experience, boundaries, and next steps.
Do you get involved in the legal side of my divorce? +
No. This is therapeutic support, not legal representation. I do not provide court testimony, custody evaluations, parenting plan recommendations, legal documentation, or any involvement in legal proceedings. For anything related to the legal process itself, please work with a licensed attorney or mediator.
