Somatic Experiencing & Body-Centered Trauma Therapy • Washington State
Your body remembers. Let’s help it safely release the past.
Move past circular mental loops. A gentle, neurobiologically-informed clinical therapy for Washington residents looking to discharge survival stress, release physical bracing, and restore true somatic safety.
No awkward poses. No forced movements. Just safe, clinical attunement.
Many people avoid somatic trauma therapy because they assume it involves unusual physical exercises, forced touch, or an overly spiritual performance. Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a well-established, neurobiologically-informed approach done seated and verbally. We simply track your physical sensations, like tight muscles, shallow breathing, or a racing heartbeat, to help your system slowly and safely process traumatic stress. You remain in complete control, and we move strictly at your body’s preferred speed.
“Trauma is not a disease or a life sentence. It is a biological survival loop that got stuck in your muscles and nervous system, waiting for the safety to complete itself.”
Why logical thoughts fail to settle physical fear
When you survive high-conflict stress, relationship abuse, or traumatic life shocks, your brain registers the threat by instantly prepping your body for survival. Your muscles tense up (bracing), your heart rate spikes, and your digestion slows down. This is your autonomic nervous system going into high alert to protect you.
Once the threat has passed, your logical brain knows you are safe. But the deeper, primal parts of your nervous system often remain locked in that old defense cycle. You might logically tell yourself, “I am safe now,” yet still struggle with tight chest muscles, a nervous stomach, sudden panic, or a heavy, chronic fogginess.
We work with the nervous system’s biological language. By paying warm, gentle attention to physical sensations, we show your system how to safely discharge historical alarm energy. As the old bracing pattern completes itself, you will notice your breathing naturally deepens, your digestion settles, and your body finally remembers how to rest.
The physical defensive states we identify and soothe
Trauma stress isn’t a behavior problem. It is a biological survival reflex. Here is how your body carries different protective states:
Fight & Flight Bracing
When your nervous system is stuck on high alert, your system is constantly preparing to run or defend itself. This shows up as a tight, racing heart, shallow breathing, persistent muscle tension (especially in your neck and shoulders), continuous jaw clenching, and an overactive anxiety loop that keeps waiting for something to go wrong.
We teach your system gentle tracking to discharge this trapped, active alarm, allowing your muscles to comfortably rest.
The Freeze & Collapse Response
If a threat is too intense or lasts too long, your system protects itself by “playing dead.” This shows up as a heavy physical numbness, chronic fatigue, brain fog, feeling distant or dissociated from your limbs, and an overall sense of emotional emptiness or low motivation.
We slowly and safely re-introduce warm somatic presence at a gentle pace to bring your physical vitality back online.
The Fawn & People-Pleasing Loop
A protective reflex where your system learns that the safest way to avoid threat or conflict is to satisfy, soothe, and please others first. This leads to exhaustion, physical self-neglect, a tight throat when trying to say no, and losing touch with your own boundaries.
We focus on building strong somatic boundaries and internal attachment support so you can trust your own voice.

Hi, I’m Isabella Koepf
I’m a somatic trauma therapist who helps Washington residents reconnect with their physical bodies, process chronic hypervigilance, and find genuine safety.
I understand how exhausting it is to live in a body that feels constantly braced or disconnected from your emotions. In our somatic sessions, we avoid aggressive behavioral rules and pressure, co-creating a respectful space built around your system’s own timing.
By combining body-centered somatic therapy with parts work (IFS), EMDR, and gentle nervous system regulation, we slowly help your body complete stored threat responses and comfortably settle back into the present moment.
