Spiritual Abuse Therapy & Religious Trauma Recovery • Washington State
When belief was used to control you, walking away is an act of survival.
Gently untangling religious fear, purity culture guilt, and dogmatic control. A safe, warm, and somatic virtual space for Washington residents ready to heal church hurt and reclaim their own inner truth.

I am not here to change your beliefs, push a faith, or defend the systems that hurt you.
Many survivors of spiritual abuse avoid starting therapy because they are afraid the therapist will take a defensive stance, use spiritual bypass, or try to steer them into another religious framework. In our work, your autonomy is complete. Whether you are currently holding onto a healthy faith, deconstructing childhood lessons, navigating secular spirituality, or identifying as an atheist or agnostic, you are met with clinical safety, respect, and no agenda.
“Your body was never the enemy, and your questions are not a sin. The anxiety you feel is not a lack of faith. It is your physical system recognizing that control is not love.”
Why religious fear lives physically inside your body
When you grow up inside a high-control religious community or fear-based dogmatic structure, belonging is always conditional. You are taught that your natural bodily desires, your critical questions, and your personal boundaries are sinful or dangerous. To survive, you learn to ignore your physical signals and override your gut instincts.
Long after you have intellectually walked away or deconstructed those beliefs, your body can still carry the old bracing. This is because high-control environments rely on deep fears of eternal punishment, rejection, and loss of community. These fears live physically inside your nervous system, showing up as a tight throat, a racing heart, shallow breathing, chronic stomach tension, or a wave of panic whenever you think about making your own choices.
We work directly with this biological alarm system.
Traditional talk therapy often treats religious trauma as a purely logical puzzle to solve. But you cannot simply think your way out of a physical panic response. In our space, we gently help your body recognize that the old rules no longer have power over you. We help you quiet the physical guilt loops, process spiritual triggers, and build a lasting sense of self-trust on your own terms.
The Healing Methods We Weave Together
Because spiritual wounds impact both your mind and your nervous system, we integrate specialized, gentle practices to support your recovery:
Settle the Physical Alarm of Fear
Fear-based religious rules can leave your body in a state of constant bracing against judgment or punishment. Somatic therapy gently works to quiet your overactive nervous system, helping you trust your body’s signals and find genuine comfort in your skin.
How we work with the body →Process Dogmatic Triggers
If reading spiritual texts, hearing specific words, or walking past a church triggers a physical fight-or-flight panic, we use gentle EMDR practices to file those memories away safely. This helps your system recognize that the past control is over.
How EMDR helps →Soothe the Younger, Terrified Parts
To stay safe inside high-control environments, parts of your personality learned to stay small, perform perfectly, or carry intense shame. We connect with those young parts of you with deep warmth, helping them step down from carrying the burden.
Explore parts work →Rebuilding a safe sanctuary inside your own being
Spiritual abuse often robs you of your inner authority, leaving you feeling disconnected from your core. Our clinical container is focused entirely on helping you regain your own agency.
Whether you are healing from the intense pressure of purity culture, processing church-related gaslighting, navigating the loss of a spiritual community, or trying to manage high-control family relationships, we focus entirely on your system’s safety, self-trust, and mind-body peace.

Hi, I’m Isabella Koepf
I’m a somatic trauma therapist who supports individuals processing the painful, confusing impact of spiritual control, dogmatic wounding, and religious trauma.
Many of my clients feel deeply isolated because they are deconstructing childhood beliefs or stepping away from tight-knit communities. I understand how frightening it can feel to explore your own thoughts and desires after years of conditional belonging. In our work together, your pace and choices are held with clinical respect.
By combining body-centered somatic therapy with parts work (IFS) and gentle EMDR re-patterning, we help you calm your overactive nervous system, quiet the lingering voices of toxic shame, and securely claim your own inner truth.
